Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Resonance Skills and Builds

Where to put 165 Resonance Points without locking a weak mastery.

Skills and Builds

Sophia has six skills, not a 40-node web. Each skill has two masteries; you pick one. The first skill costs five Resonance Points. Every new skill costs five more. Mastery always costs ten. You can respec for free. Like a Warrior needs 165 of 200 points in one playthrough. This page is the spend order. How the buttons feel is on combat. Where tokens hide is on collectibles.

Point math

Six skills at 5+10+15+20+25+30 is 105 if you bought them in order without skipping. Masteries at 10 each, if you take all six, are 60. That is 165 on the nose, which is why the trophy number exists. You can skip a skill you never press and still have slack because 200 points exist in the world. You cannot skip half the tokens and still buy everything.

Do not buy every mastery on day one if you have not found 165 points yet. Buy two skills, one mastery, then explore. The tree is meant to be felt, not filled, until Chapter 7.

S-tier first unlocks

Echo’s Return. Press dodge as you are hit, grab the attacker, throw them into the pack. Preview and review copies both loved the animation because it is a group stun, not a damage tick. Upgrade path that catches yellow attacks is the one to take if you parry a lot.

Extra dodge / dodge mastery. Eurogamer’s note: if you are not fond of parrying, expand dodge into a double dodge. One mastery makes you almost invincible during the extra dodge; the other adds a spinning cut. Take invincible if you are dying, spinning cut if you are greedy.

Aegean Deflect. IGN’s tips video: doubles stagger damage on a parry return. This is the parry-main S pick. Pair with Arm Bands.

A-tier

Bullbreaker Kick. Double-tap kick into a second hit that stuns and knocks back. Wall-stun mastery is the one that matches how arenas are built. Kick is already on your pad from Chapter 1; this just makes the button a plan.

Heroic Surge. Temporary protection after a charged kill. TechRadar described health segments returning on kills as well. Surge is the “stay in the pile” node. Take it when mixed packs start including yellow attacks.

Throwable hold. Metro mentioned a skill that lets you pick up throwables to use later. That is A in archer rooms, B in pure melee rooms. If Beads already save you, this is less urgent.

Two builds that actually finish the game

Parry build. Echo’s Return → Aegean Deflect → yellow-parry mastery → Bullbreaker Kick. Charms: Arm Bands, then Beads. Play style: tap LB, dump stagger into charged dagger, kick anyone who raises a shield.

Dodge build. Extra dodge → invincible-dodge mastery → Bullbreaker Kick → Heroic Surge. Charms: Beads, then Trinkets. Play style: respect red attacks, kick after the second dodge, charged dagger only on stunned backs.

Both builds clear the island. Neither needs the Heritage sword. Swap blades per room. Respec before Night Has Come if your first tree was a guess.

Mistakes

Buying three masteries on one skill and owning only one tool. Reloading Chapter 3 to “farm” tokens and wiping a Chapter 10 total. Saving every point until the last chapter and playing the hard middle under-skilled. Spending in the necklace cutscene in Chapter 2 before you have fought a real pack.

If you came from Requiem’s large alchemical tree, this will feel small. That is the design. Asobo wanted meaningful verbs, not a spreadsheet. Pair this page with the combat guide for buttons and the walkthrough for when mixed packs start showing red attacks.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I unlock every skill and mastery in one run?

Yes if you find 165 Resonance Points before the credits. That is the Like a Warrior threshold. Chapter select will not finish it.

Is respec really free?

Yes. Refund in the skills menu whenever you want. Use that instead of living with a bad first pick.

What is the first skill I should buy?

Echo's Return if you parry, extra dodge if you do not. Details above; buttons on controls.

Do blades spend Resonance Points?

No. Points only buy skills and masteries. Swords are world pickups on the blades page.
