Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Resonance Bestiary
Every enemy type, threat behaviour, and how to survive them on the island.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy throws a wider range of threats at Sophia than the rat swarms of earlier A Plague Tale games. This bestiary documents the complete enemy roster, from the Petrified stone warriors to the legendary Creature at the labyrinth’s heart. Combat strategies sit on the combat guide. Trophy conditions for mass-kills sit on trophies. The walkthrough flags which chapters introduce new enemy mixes so you know when to expect a Brute or a Corrupted.
The Petrified - Stone Corpses That Hunt in Darkness
The Petrified are the island’s most distinctive threat type, and the mechanic that most clearly separates Resonance from its predecessors. They appear as petrified corpses scattered throughout ancient ruins, caves, and temple complexes. When Sophia moves quickly or runs near them, they twitch and come to life, pursuing her until she reaches a light source or stays completely still. This creates a stealth-adjacent survival layer that the human soldiers do not.
Behaviour: Petrified activate in groups when you sprint or move fast. They will chase you indefinitely in darkness, but they freeze in place when Sophia stands in any permanent light source. The puzzle solutions page covers light mechanics if you need a refresher on beam splitting and light concentration.
Survival: Walk, do not run, near groups of motionless stone bodies. If you trigger a swarm, sprint to the nearest lantern or brazier. Light Concentrate mode on the Minoan sphere can dissolve individual Petrified, but using it as a weapon is secondary to using light as a shield. The trophy They Were People requires dissolving 100 of them with light throughout the campaign.
Drops: Petrified do not drop blades or charms. They are an obstacle and a lore delivery mechanism. Their poses tell you where danger was in the Minoan era. Some hold Poseidon’s Coins that count toward Theseus Echo collectibles.
The Creature - The Beast Behind the Myth
The Creature is the legendary threat at the centre of the labyrinth, the monster behind the Minotaur myth that Asobo Studio built the entire island around. It appears in hunt sequences from Chapter 6 onward, stalking Sophia through dark underground sections and forcing her to use the island’s light infrastructure as survival tools.
Behaviour: The Creature tracks by line-of-sight and sound. Moving fast draws it closer. Standing in permanent light sources blocks its path entirely. It can grab and kill Sophia instantly if it reaches her in darkness. Chapters 9 and 12 feature extended chase sequences where you must reach light pockets before the Creature closes the gap. This is not a fight you can win through combat.
Survival: The Look For The Light rule applies here with absolute consistency: when the Creature is hunting, move from one light source to the next. Do not attempt to fight it. The Refraction trophy requires burning it with Light Concentrate ten times, which you can accomplish during normal play without专门的 farming.
Lore: The creature is revealed in the final chapters as Asterion, bound to the island’s curse and connected to the Minotaur mythology. The Chapter 13 boss fight against the Minotaur statue is a separate mechanical encounter from the Creature chase sequences.
Cretan Soldiers - The Human Threat
Regular soldiers form the bulk of human encounters throughout the campaign. They appear in Venice (Chapter 2), during island landings, and throughout the trials. Unlike the Petrified or the Creature, these enemies engage in conventional melee and ranged combat that Sophia can win through the skill system.
Archer
Threat: Ranged. Arrows can kill from distance and interrupt your melee flow entirely. They are the most common cause of cheap deaths in compact arenas because they ignore your positioning.
Counter: Use the grappling hook to yank them from elevated positions. Throw bottles or knives at them to stun before closing distance. Beads charms give a stacked chance for their arrows to miss entirely, which is why stacked Beads rank high on the charms tier list. The Returning the Favour trophy requires killing an Archer with a throwing knife.
Brute
Threat: Heavy melee fighter. Brutes deal high damage and can one-shot Sophia if she is low on health. They appear in groups and can push through regular sword hits with their unblockable attacks.
Counter: Dodge their attacks rather than attempting to parry. Kicking them off ledges or into walls is the most reliable tactic. The Cannon Fodder trophy requires luring a Brute into killing a regular soldier with its unblockable attack.
Shield Soldier
Threat: Blocks frontal attacks with their shield. They walk into combat first and set the pace for pack aggression.
Counter: Kick them into walls or off ledges to bypass the shield entirely. A stunned Shield Soldier is vulnerable to a charged dagger finisher. Bullbreaker Kick is designed specifically for this type, making the shield irrelevant.
Corrupted
Threat: Late-game enemy variant that appears from Chapter 11 onward. They can grab Sophia and initiate a button-mash QTE to break free, which can be deadly if you fail the timing.
Counter: The Excessive Force trophy rewards breaking free from a Corrupted grab using a Focus attack while your Focus gauge is full, which is the optimal response. Otherwise, dodge their grab attempt and punish with charged attacks when they recover.
Enemy Colour Attacks - What Breaks Through
Resonance uses a colour-coded attack system for human enemies that communicates threat level:
White attacks: Parry-able by default with correct timing. Timed parries build stagger and trigger Aegean Deflect bonuses. This is the foundation of the parry-focused combat style.
Yellow attacks: Require the Aegean Deflect mastery to parry reliably. Until you purchase that upgrade, dodge yellow swings rather than attempting to parry them.
Red attacks: Unblockable for most of the game until you have late skill tree upgrades. Dodge is the only reliable answer. Some masteries late in the skill tree let you interact with red attacks, but the default response is always to sidestep.
Trophy Conditions Involving Enemies

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How do I avoid the Petrified?
Walk slowly near them. Sprinting or running triggers them. If a swarm activates, reach a permanent light source immediately. Light Concentrate can dissolve them individually.
Can I fight the Creature?
No. It cannot be killed in chase sequences. Survive by moving between light sources. The Chapter 13 Minotaur statue fight is a separate boss encounter.
What is the Corrupted?
A late-game soldier variant from Chapter 11 onward. They can grab you and initiate a QTE. Use Focus attacks to break free for the Excessive Force trophy.
Which enemy is the hardest?
Mixed packs with Brutes, Archers, and yellow/red attack soldiers in Chapters 9 through 12. Use the environment and charm procs rather than frontal assault.
