Lore Codex

This page is a glossary, not a story. Use it as a quick lookup when a name from a walkthrough chapter or an ending explained beat lands in a conversation you do not remember. Each entry links to the deepest page that explains it. Spoilers are kept light here; the linked pages mark their own spoiler level in their first paragraph.

The curse

  • Prima Macula — the original Macula, attached to a Minoan royal bloodline two thousand years before Sophia. Drives hallucinations, attracts the Creature, and passes between generations. The wound that the whole series traces back to. Deep page: story and lore.
  • Macula — the shorthand everyone in the. uses for the Prima Macula. Treat the two terms as interchangeable in the in-game dialogue. Deep page: ending explained.
  • Carrier — a Macula-positive person. Asterion is the canonical Carrier. Sophia is one by the time she lands on Crete. Hugo de Rune from Innocence and Requiem is the modern-era Carrier who carries the wound into A Plague Tale’s main duology.
  • Protector — the person sworn to keep the Carrier alive until the Macula can be cured or destroyed. Ariadne was Asterion’s Protector. Sophia becomes her own Protector in Requiem when Amicia and Lucas stand between her and the Order.
  • Order — the centuries-old institution hunting for Asterion’s location. The convent nuns who injected Sophia as a child belong to it. Deep page: ending explained.

The Minoan family

  • Asterion — Ariadne’s brother, Minoan prince, Prima Macula Carrier, the man behind the Minotaur myth. Imprisoned by his father King Minos as containment. Deep pages: Theseus / Ariadne, ending explained.
  • Ariadne — Asterion’s elder sister, the Minoan princess who enters King Minos’s arena disguised as the mythic hero Theseus. Daedalus’s ally. The body Sophia inherits during dual-timeline sections. Deep page: Theseus / Ariadne.
  • King Minos — Asterion and Ariadne’s father. Architect of the containment ritual that drove his son berserk when it failed. Killed Ariadne in the arena when she begged him to end it. Deep page: story and lore.
  • Daedalus — the engineer of the labyrinth, the light machines Sophia solves in 1334, and the sphere Sophia carries. Switched off the labyrinth’s defences after Minos killed Ariadne, which is why the labyrinth fell. Deep page: puzzle solutions.
  • Pasiphae — in the Greek myth, Minos’s wife and the Minotaur’s mother. Resonance does not put her on screen but the credits list a creature model named for her.

The Sophia thread

  • Sophia — the lead, fifteen years before Innocence. Dual-wielding plunderer, daughter of Alec, smuggler captain by Requiem. Deep page: Sophia.
  • Alec — Sophia’s father, plunderer-camp captain. Disappeared on an earlier Crete expedition. Deep page: companions.
  • Mother of Sophia — sent young Sophia to the convent. The convent injections are how Sophia’s Macula carrier status activates.
  • Leni — Venice heist partner, island puzzle ally, and the relationship the campaign is built on. Deep page: Leni.
  • Faro — Alec’s ally, later the crew’s captain, mortally wounded holding the light beam in the final labyrinth fight. Loyal, not the traitor. Deep page: companions.
  • Irene — Faro’s lieutenant and the traitor who tips off the Venetian army in Chapter 2 and ambushes Sophia inside the labyrinth. The traitor everyone mistook for Faro. Deep page: companions.

The camp

  • Ezra — chef of the plunderer camp, fakes the chase in the Blood Ties tutorial.
  • Valerio — teaches the first real parry after the Blood Ties time skip.
  • Romani pirate crew — the camp that surrounds Sophia, Leni, Faro, Irene, Ezra, and Valerio. Reviewers call them “Romani-style” because of camp music and camp iconography.

The island

  • Minotaur Island — Crete, with a Minoan ruin the size of a small city built on top. Sophia lands in Chapter 3. Deep page: walkthrough.
  • The Labyrinth — Daedalus’s containment machine for Asterion. The island’s centre. The final chapter runs inside it. Deep page: ending explained.
  • The Sphere — Minoan key Sophia carries. Lamp mode, prism mode, insert mode. Deep page: puzzle solutions.
  • Petrified — stone corpses that animate when Sophia sprints near them and freeze in light. Lore-delivery, not loot. Deep page: bestiary.
  • The Creature — Asterion in Macula form, hunts Sophia through dark underground sections. Cannot be killed in chase. Deep page: bestiary.

Game systems and collectables
