Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy New Game Plus
A second run with your Sophia mastery tree intact — what carries over, what changes, and how to think about a post-platinum replay.
New Game Plus (NG+) in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a second playthrough that unlocks after the credits roll. Asobo Studio has not published a full NG+ design document at launch, but the A Plague Tale series has shipped an NG+ mode in every prior title, and community guides plus the Steam discussions board already cover expected behavior. This page records what we can verify and clearly labels anything that is expected-but-not-confirmed.
If you finished the campaign and you want to replay the story, NG+ lets you skip the first few hours of relearning skills and dive straight into the harder trials. If you are still on your first run, this page tells you what is worth saving for a clean replay and what you should not stress about preserving.
What is confirmed at launch
These are points with an authoritative source, not speculation:
- NG+ mode exists. The series shipped an NG+ mode in A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem. Resonance continues the pattern; the chapter-select menu and “restart with NG+” prompt appear after the credits.
- Story beats are unchanged. The dual-timeline Resonance mechanic, Sophia’s set-pieces, and the chapter order do not change on NG+. You are replaying the same campaign, not a divergent remix.
- Save import behavior is per-storefront. A Steam save does not become a Game Pass save, and an Xbox Play Anywhere save does not move to PS5. If you have NG+ on Steam, it stays on Steam.
What we expect (but cannot fully verify yet)
The ludo.guide page and other community guides describe an A Plague Tale-style NG+ loop. That framing is reasonable but not Sophia-specific, so treat the following as educated guesses rather than guarantees:
- Mastery tree is carried over. All six base skills and their Mastery tiers are likely to remain unlocked when you start NG+ with Sophia. Otherwise, the Like a Warrior platinum would be reachable in a single run, which would defeat the trophy’s intent.
- Collectibles reset. Charms, Blades, Relics, and Theseus Echoes almost certainly return to zero on NG+. The first run is the only one that pops Hoarder, Plunderer, Superstitious, and In the Name of My Kin.
- Enemies may hit harder. Asobo often increases enemy aggression or HP on NG+ runs across their action games. We do not have a confirmed stat block for Resonance NG+.
- Cosmetic and Charm unlocks may carry. Cosmetics that you found in the first run typically remain in your inventory on NG+.
- Resonance Points reset. Counter starts from zero on NG+; you re-earn points through combat and exploration.
If a future patch documents any of these explicitly, this page will be updated. The updates page tracks patch notes by build.
Why play NG+
Three reasons, in the order people usually pick them:
- New cosmetic rewards. Asobo typically hides one or two outfits or visual variants behind the NG+ clear flag. These do not gate the platinum.
- A cleaner first run experience. If you under-spent Resonance Points on your first playthrough, NG+ lets you redo the build with the right skills tier list open in another tab.
- A second chance at the point trophy. If your first run came in under 165 Resonance Points, NG+ is the path to Like a Warrior without rerolling the entire story from a fresh save.
Recommended NG+ build order
If you are starting NG+ specifically to optimize Resonance Point spending for a clean Like a Warrior run, this is the order to buy masteries, drawn from the skills tier list page:
- Echo’s Return (dodge into groups) — first priority. Stagger groups of three with a single button (Skilled Maneuverer trophy setup).
- Bullbreaker Kick (kick stuns shields) — unlocks Overboard trophy kills and breaks shieldmen.
- Focus Rush or Focus upgrade — first priority for the Inherited Brutality kill-4 setup.
- Critical Strike upgrade — Sharp Enough for You? needs 25 crits; the upgrade makes them land faster.
- Parry window expansion — Untouchable (6 parries in a row) becomes routine once the window is longer.
- Last priority mastery — whichever you saved for last (most players pick throwables or sprint-attack utility).
That ordering keeps the trophies flowing and uses the points you would otherwise burn on a “wrong” first mastery.
Differences from the first run
These are the most likely behavioural changes based on what Asobo has shipped in prior titles. Marked expected, not confirmed.
| Aspect | First run | New Game Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Resonance Points | Earned from scratch | Re-earned from scratch |
| Charms / Blades / Relics | Pick up from scratch | Pick up from scratch (progress does not carry) |
| Skill masteries | Locked | Carried over (expected) |
| Combat difficulty | Normal | Likely harder (expected) |
| Puzzle solutions | Same | Same |
| Chapter Select | Unlocked after credits | Always available |
| Cosmetics | Unlocked as found | Carry over (expected) |
| Story | Set in stone | Same beats, same order |
When NG+ is the wrong call
If you finished the campaign under 165 Resonance Points and you are missing Like a Warrior, NG+ is faster than a chapter-replay grind because the skill tree starts unlocked. If you missed Hoarder or Superstitious, Chapter Select is faster and cheaper than NG+ — collectibles reset on NG+ so you would just be replaying the same chests. Read the collectibles route first.
What NG+ does not solve
- A bugged trophy that refuses to pop. If a trophy counter is stuck, NG+ is not a reset; you need to fully reload the save, fast-travel, or restart your platform client.
- A bugged Sophia animation. NG+ shares the same engine assets, so a soft-lock will repeat.
- Skipped charm pick-ups the game never registered. If a chest was looted but the counter did not tick, NG+ will not retroactively grant it.
If any of those situations apply, see the performance page for crash workarounds, and the trophies page for chapter-select order. If Asobo publishes a confirmed NG+ spec after launch, this page will be rewritten to match.

- Does NG+ carry collectibles? No (expected). Charms, Blades, Relics, and Theseus Echoes reset.
- Does NG+ change the story? No. The campaign is the same campaign.
- Does NG+ change difficulty? It likely becomes harder, but Asobo has not published a stat block.
- Do I need NG+ for the platinum? No. The platinum is reachable in a single run.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is NG+ in Resonance at launch?
Yes. The A Plague Tale series has shipped NG+ since Innocence. Resonance continues the pattern; the prompt appears after the credits.
Does NG+ carry my Mastery skills?
Almost certainly yes. Asobo has not published an explicit spec, but the series pattern supports this. If confirmed otherwise, this page will be updated.
Do I have to replay all 14 chapters?
Yes, if you want the NG+ flag. Chapter Select is faster for collectibles, but the NG+ clear requires a full playthrough.
Does NG+ change enemy difficulty?
It likely becomes harder. Asobo has not published a confirmed stat block for Resonance NG+ at the time of writing.
Does NG+ work across stores?
No. Steam, PS5, Game Pass, and Play Anywhere saves are separate. NG+ on one platform does not transfer to another.
