Irene in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
The lieutenant who sells the carnival raid and dies in the labyrinth.
This page spoils Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy from Chapter 2 through the labyrinth. If you have not finished the campaign, stop after the first section and use the walkthrough. Once the light machines are online, the rest of this guide is meant to be useful.
Irene is Faro’s lieutenant. She is the traitor. She is not Faro, not Leni, and not a twist parked in the credits. She tips the Venetian army during the Chapter 2 carnival raid, then ambushes Sophia and Faro inside the labyrinth after they aim Daedalus’s light machines at the centre. Sophia kills her in a three-phase duel. The named-cast index sits on companions. The crew map sits on factions.
Resonance is single-player. You cannot assign a friend to Irene. She is an AI lieutenant, a story knife, and the largest human duel in the campaign. Asobo wrote her. Nobody generated her.
The leak in Venice
Chapter 2, Felons, is supposed to be Faro’s masterpiece: a carnival raid that steals the Minoan sphere, the key to Minotaur Island. Sophia and Leni take the rooftops. Irene runs the diversion on the ground. The army is already waiting. Ezra is hit. The den burns.
The plunderer camp never catches her. Faro reads the fire as Sophia’s betrayal and fights her in the hideout aftermath. He is protecting the wrong wound. The leak is his own lieutenant. Official marketing places the game fifteen years before A Plague Tale: Requiem. Wikipedia also dates it to 1334, fifteen years before Innocence. In both clocks Irene is new. She does not walk through Requiem’s crew or Innocence’s Inquisition.
Why she sells the camp is not a dialogue wheel. The Venetians want the sphere. Someone pays for a spy inside a plunderer crew. Irene takes the money and keeps the rank. That is enough motive for a prequel that refuses to pause for a confession booth. The Heritage Pack will not explain her either. It is optional DLC: Minoan Sword / Hero’s Blade, Alec’s Pendant, an in-game artbook. None of it is her kit.
Leni already distrusts Faro’s caution during the raid. That argument is about leadership, not about Irene. The lieutenant smiles, signals, and opens a door the army can use. If you came to this wiki hunting a love-triangle leak, you came to the wrong island.
The ambush in the labyrinth
Later on Crete, Sophia and Faro work together to aim the ancient light machines at the labyrinth centre. Irene hits them there, after the machines are live. Faro is mortally wounded in that attack and spends his last breath holding the beam. Sophia is left with the duel.
This is not a stealth takedown. It is the largest named human fight on the boss fights page. Three health bars. Three kits. Button-level habits still live on combat: parry white, respect yellow, kick a guard.
Phase one is a one-handed sword. She raises a defensive stance; kick it open. Parry the yellow hits, take one or two swings on the recovery, and keep the Focus gauge for later. She is faster than Valerio and meaner than the Sica captain. She is still readable if you refuse to panic-mash.
Phase two is two daggers. She closes distance. A ranged throw telegraphs from the indicator over her head; dodge it, or parry it so the blade becomes a projectile you can send back. Grappling her yanks her in, then she answers with an aerial slash. Block, parry, or dodge immediately. The grapple is a tool, not a skip.
Phase three keeps the daggers and adds vanish attacks. She leaves the ring, the camera unlocks, a yellow alert marks the re-entry throw. Parry those daggers; they become high-damage throwables. She vanishes again around half health and again near a quarter. Sphere tools help once she is back in the arena. The fight ends when the third bar empties. Sophia lands the killing blow. There is no optional rematch and no arena mode.
What she is not
She is not Faro. Players who walk into Night Has Come expecting the captain to be the leak are reading the wrong wound. Chapter 9 is a Faro melee after a hard beat with Leni. It is not Irene’s confession. She is not Leni. She is not a second playable body and not the Minoan echo you inhabit as Theseus. Dual-timeline sequences belong to Ariadne. Irene dies in 1334.
She is also not the beast in the dark. The Creature, later named Asterion, is the island’s curse, not a woman with two daggers. Mixing those threats is how late chases go wrong. Light for the beast. Steel for Irene.
The full plot, including the Amicia sting after the credits, lives on ending explained. If you are still in Chapter 2, stay on the walkthrough and treat her as the ally running the diversion. She is, until she is not.
Play first. Then companions for the rest of the crew, Faro for the man she betrays, and boss fights for the phase chart. Resonance can drop stealth and still hurt like an Asobo drama because the knife comes from inside the camp.
